Aside

2012 has proven to be a busy year thus far…and it’s only 19 days in.  I want to post everyday…and it may get to that point…but for now I have other priorities on my plate.  At the end of 2011 our daughter was diagnosed with ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Asperger’s.  The first two we were aware of.  The last was suspected, but now confirmed.  So…I’m now in the endless cycle of appointments, testing, paperwork, and research.  It’s frustrating as a parent to know your child needs certain neuro-psychological tests, but the wait list to have those tests is 4-6 months out.  What are we supposed to do in the interim?  Wait, I suppose.  Good news is…she is in a small charter school that is amazing.  The Special Ed coordinator has already sent the paperwork necessary for the school district testing and will construct an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) as soon as possible.  Until then, I will keep making phone calls to try and secure the necessary testing…and keep assuring my daughter that she is just as amazing as ever…because she is.  Whatever it takes.

Oh…and try to post a little here and there.

  1. I understand where you’re coming from; my son has ADHD and Sensory Integration Dysfunction. It was a nightmare getting things started with his first school, but since moving to a different school path his world has greatly improved. The challenge now will be the change from grade school to junior high; and the meetings and testing is starting up again for full reassessment. Be strong and know you’re being a fantastic advocate for your daughter. God Bless You! BTW, this is a great image to include with your post. Cheers!
